Abstract: This article supplies an overview of eBahn® Desktop installation and license activation, repair content types and basic navigation, and how to check the web for updates to your product.

Applies to: eBahn® Desktop, Version 3

eBahn® Activation and Licensing

eBahn® repair content is activated based on an eBahn® License Serial Number that you get either with the disc or purchase separately.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) for eBahn is managed via serial numbers and machine-specific activation codes. Without activation through the License Manager (more on that later), you will not be able to view the repair information on your disc.

Your eBahn® License contains two serial numbers. You only need one of them to activate the content though. The second one you can use as a backup or on a second computer.

Note: Screenshots may vary slightly depending on your version.

Enter one of your eBahn® License Serial Numbers into the installer.

Once you've entered your serial number, confirm your choice by checking the box next to the platform you're installing. The installer will load the repair information onto your hard drive.

After the repair content data is installed on your computer, the installer will give you the option to check if you have the latest version of eBahn® Reader. If a newer version has been posted to our website, you will be prompted to download it. (Internet connection is required for this step.)

Once you've successfully installed the repair information, you will be prompted to launch your eBahn® Reader. eBahn® Reader will open the License Manager, where you will activate the repair content on your computer.

eBahn® Desktop License Manager

Profile and Communications Preferences

Getting Started with eBahn® Desktop

The eBahn® Desktop License Manager is where you control your profile, license and serial number information. This information can also be found in the Bentley Publishers Member Center. If this is the first time you've installed eBahn® Desktop, you will be asked to enter your profile information and communication preferences. Your activation path will change depending on whether your computer is connected to the internet.

The first screen of the Profile Wizard asks you to set your communication preferences.

The next screen will ask you to enter your email address, name and phone number. A valid email address is required for activation.

The third and final screen will ask you to enter your computer information. The Computer ID is assigned by the eBahn® Desktop and contains no identifiable information. Fill in the Computer nickname field with a unique name for your computer so you can distinguish it later (garage computer, laptop, Dad's computer, etc.). Once you've entered your profile and communication preferences, you're ready to activate content.

Activating Content

The first screen will ask you to enter your serial number. (If you're coming to this screen directly from the eBahn® Installer, the serial number will already be filled in.)

If you're activating with an internet connection, you'll automatically receive an email with your Activation Key. Enter the Activation Key here.

If you're activating without an internet connection, you will first see a page that will give you information on how to obtain your Activation Key through the Bentley Publishers Member Center.

Once you've entered your Activation Key, the final screen will confirm your activation details. Click the Finish button and you're ready to go!

Finding and Using Technical Information in eBahn® Desktop

Folder Structure

The folder structure in the Tech Info tab sorts the repair information out by category. Access repair information through the folders on the left or the vehicle matrix on the right.

Repair Manuals

Repair procedures are included with detailed diagrams for the vehicle's major systems. Hyperlinks within the procedure can take you to other relevant procedures.

Wiring Diagrams

Wiring diagrams are sorted alphabetically within each model year. Choose the one you want to view and eBahn® Reader will open the diagram as an eBahn® Technical Document.

Component Locations

The component locations will identify with diagrams and photographs exactly where to find a specific part on the vehicle. Component locations are sorted alphabetically, so choose the one you want and eBahn® Reader will open the eBahn® Technical Document.

Technical Bulletins

Technical bulletins are organized by repair group in the same way that the repair procedures are. If there are no technical bulletins available for a particular repair group, a "Nothing Available" message will appear. Choose a technical bulletin and download the eBahn® Technical Document.

Video Training

For some vehicles, repair content also includes original video training materials. These vidoes were originally broadcast by the manufacturer to dealer service technicians as a way to familiarize them with new vehicles and systems.

Using the eBahn®Desktop Tools

Check for Updates

Using the Check For Updates function in the Help menu will enable you to download any available software updates as well as available updates to your repair content. An internet connection is required for this, and your download time will depend on the speed of your internet connection, but it's the best way to keep your eBahn manual up-to-date.

DTC Xpress™

The DTC Xpress™ tool under the Vehicle tab can tell you what selected Diagnostic Trouble Codes mean and give you a link to relevant repair information. Just select a DTC code from the pull down menu.

Viewing Options

Using the Hide Tabs and Show Tabs allows you to view repair information across the whole screen.

VIN Decoder™

Enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the VIN Decoder™: this will decode your VIN, but will not filter the repair information for your vehicle.
