Last weekend, Karl Ludvigsen and Bentley Publishers appeared at a pair of Porsche events in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  On Friday, April 19th, Karl gave a talk at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum on his book Porsche - Origin of the Species.  The talk was followed up by a question and answer period followed by a book signing that lasted well into the night. 

The next morning, Karl had another book signing in the Bentley Publishers tent at the world-famous Porsche Swap Meet on the grounds of the Giant Center.  Although there was a strong wind blowing through our tent throughout the day, hundreds of fans braved the cold to get their books autographed by Ludvigsen.

On February 14th, author Jerry Burton will be appearing at California State University, Long Beach to give a talk on Corvette legend Zora Arkus-Duntov. This presentation, courtesy of the Society of Automotive Engineers - Southern California Section, will draw from the extensive research he did for his award-winning book Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette as well as new insights Burton gathered on his visit to the exhibit on Duntov at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Center for Russian Immigrants in Moscow. Burton will discuss the amazing life of Duntov in which he crossed paths with Alfred Neubeuer of Mercedes Benz, Ettore Bugatti, Ferry Porsche, and Sydney Allard before joining General Motors in 1953 where he drove the Corvette into sports car immortality as its engineering caretaker.

As the Corvette world continues to marvel at the recent introduction of the Corvette C7 at this year's Detroit Auto Show, Burton's presentation will connect the dots from Duntov's pioneering achievements in Corvette engineering to the latest incarnation of the classic American sports car.

Karl Ludvigsen will be appearing at the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 19th, 2013. This event is part of the Porsche Style & Design exhibit running until April 28th at the Museum.

Karl will be giving a presentation based on his 2012 Dean Batchelor award-winning book Porsche - Origin of the Species. He'll also be signing copies of Origins, as well as his other automotive history books including the acclaimed Porsche: Excellence Was Expected. At first sight of the new C7 Corvette Bill Mitchell and Zora Arkus-Duntov are spinning in their graves. Spinning, that is, in sheer excitement at what their successors have wrought. First there’s the prominent revival of the Stingray name, first used with the creature’s emblem on the racing Stingray of 1959. The name has been used on and off since – albeit not always with the support of Duntov – and amply deserves its revival on the 2014 car, which has all the menace of a maritime predator. “Corvette Stingray” just goes together. Zora will be happy with the car’s technology, especially its direct fuel injection, sister to systems that he pioneered at GM in the mid-1950s. As for the C7’s looks, Bill Mitchell said that “a car has to have enough interest so that it looks different each time you glance at it. Each time you see it you see a little more. That’s what a Corvette should always be.” Well, Ed Welburn, you sure pulled that off! It’s a car of immense surface and detail fascination that still hangs together beautifully. And those four central exhausts are a straight steal from the Aerovette concept Corvette of 1974. Along with his Sebring SS racer of 1957, that was Zora Duntov’s favorite among his unique machines. It may not be mid-engined, Corvette fans, but you’ve always rejected that option. So this is easily the best Corvette yet.

Hearty congratulations to Alex Zanardi on his inspirational gold medal win at the 2012 London Paralympics in the men's individual H4 (hand-cycle) time-trial. Since his 2001 crash at Germany's Lausitzring, 2 time CART winner Zanardi has focused his determination and drive on the sport of handcycling.  Zanardi was able to apply a slight competitive advantage in his 10 mile race at the Brands Hatch course as he knew the track quite well from his motorsports days.

We've just gotten word that Jerry Seinfeld's Porsche 356 2/040, the car that forms the inspiration for Karl Ludvigsen's forthcoming book Porsche - Origin of the Species, will be on display at the book launch event on Saturday, August 18 in Danvers, Massachusetts.

This Porsche Gmünd coupe, one of the oldest original-condition Porsches still on the road today, is considered by many to be the car from which all Porsche 356s and 911s trace their lineage.

Author Karl Ludvigsen will be giving the keynote speech at the Porsche 356 East Coast Holiday in the presence of this historic car. If you read the New York Times Automobiles section this past Sunday, June 24th, you might have noticed a featured article by Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette author Jerry Burton.

In this piece, Burton discusses his recent trip to Moscow to visit the current exhibit on the life of Arkus-Duntov at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Center for Russian Émigrés.  He also writes about the crucial historical role that Arkus-Duntov played in the conceptualization and development of what has since become "the longest continuously produced passenger-car nameplate in the Chevrolet stable."

Congratulations go out to Bentley Publishers authors and Corvette VIPs Dave McLellan and Jerry Burton on their induction this weekend into the 2012 Bloomington Gold Great Hall.  Each year, the Selection Committee of the Bloomington Gold Great Hall select ten people and ten cars to be recognized for their pioneering efforts to promote the Corvette legacy.

For 2012, the Selection Committee decided to induct Dave McLellan for his crucial role in the technical history of the Corvette.  "Succeeding Zora Arkus-Duntov as the 2nd Chief Engineer for Corvette, Mr. McLellan led the development of the C4 and C5 programs, including the record-setting ZR1 performance package."   McLellan's story of his experience as Chief Engineer can be found in Corvette From The Inside.

The Selection Committee also decided to induct Jerry Burton, author of Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette.  "Jerry's involvement in the Corvette Phenomenon has many facets: author of many Corvette books, including the biography of Zora Arkus-Duntov; assisted in development of the National Corvette Museum; and former editor of Corvette Quarterly."

As part of the launch of this fall's Porsche - Origin of the Species, author Karl Ludvigsen will be making a handful of appearances on both sides of the Atlantic.
